This is my go-to program when I don't know what to do and when I still want results. My arms get CARVED when I follow this program as well as my legs. I do these as circuits - meaning I do one exercise and move onto the next completing all exercises and then repeat again for as many times as I can or have time for. Aim for 2-4 rounds depending on your fitness level and time.

This is a 4 day split and you can use it however fits your schedule:

Day #1 - biceps, triceps, shoulders

Day #2 - legs & abs

Day #3 - back, chest, shoulders

Day #4 - plyo & abs

You can do this every day for 4 days on, 3 days off. You can do them every other day. Or you can just do it whenever you have time to do a workout! Some of the exercise do use a cable machine but you can easily swap them out for dumbbell or band exercises. Just make sure you're working the same muscles or muscle group.

I love this split because it is so flexible and can work for so many people. Now the sets and reps are really up to you:

If I'm pressed for time I do 10 reps each

When time allows I do 12-15 reps each (medium weight)

If you're looking for strength aim for 8-10 reps each (heavier weight)

Or if you want to know exactly how long it'll take you, you can use an interval timer doing 45 seconds work and 15 seconds rest. This allows you enough time to 'rest' between exercise and get your weights ready for the next one. Doing this split means each exercise is 1 minute long including the rest so if there are 9 exercises that means 1 round is 9 minutes.

How much weight should you be using? You should pick a weight that you are able to complete the amount of reps in your range that you've picked (eg. 12-15, you should be able to complete at least 12 but it's difficult and 15 is the max you can handle.) If you don't have weights you can use things around the house or invest in some resistance bands - they're pretty cheap but still effective.

Hello friends! I know I haven't been blogging much the past few years but I honestly eat a lot of the same stuff so I haven't been creating new dishes to share on here.

I have a hard time eating enough vegetables so I try to make one meal a day that has a giant portion of them to make up for the rest of the day. It's usually a salad but my other fave way to squeeze them in is roasting or BBQ'ing them.

I love potatoes so I've been opting for an egg and potato scramble for breakfast over my usual egg and spinach sandwich. Topped with cheese, ketchup, and Frank's.

Spring mix with peppers, red onion, and cucumber, topped with Kraft Asian sesame dressing. It's high in calories but you can buy the lower calorie option as well. I love this dressing. Side of a Kirkland garden burger with Frank's and sour cream.

I don't normally buy veggie substitutes but I saw these and I don't regret finding them haha. These are the Yves veggie nuggets. Paired with a great big salad of spring mix, tomato, cucumber, peppers, and avocado. Dressing is Kraft Greek vinaigrette.

Fried eggs with garlic toast, salad made with romaine lettuce, cucumber, grated carrot, tomato, and pepper. Dressing was olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Broccoli, mushrooms, chick peas, and quinoa. I can't remember if I used a dressing or anything on this.

This is one of my absolute favorite salads: romaine lettuce, tomato, peppers, Yves original veggie ground, shredded cheese, salsa, and sour cream. Taco salad without the extra calories of chips but you're welcome to add them to yours. Either way it's delicious.

Today's post is a recipe for this delicious fajita bowl. I had groceries delivered a few times in January and apparently you are no exempt from buying too much when you're ordering online. I got some frozen veggies to keep on hand since I kept wasting the fresh stuff but then I ordered more fresh stuff when I had the stuff in the freezer... I'm pretty smart :)

Anyway, I got caught up on the fresh stuff so onto the frozen stuff. However, you can obviously use fresh peppers and onions for this recipe, I just happened to have a frozen mix of red, green, and yellow peppers, and onions that was perfect for fajitas! I also had fresh mushrooms that needed to be used so I sliced those babies up and sauteed them in olive oil for a few minutes before adding the frozen mix.

I used my Epicure fajita seasoning mix but it can be replaced with a homemade mix or store bought, whatever works for you.

This recipe made enough for two smaller portions since I don't eat large meals, normally. You could double this recipe to make 3 larger portions if you want. I used my rice cooker to make my brown rice - if you cook a lot of rice or quinoa I do recommend getting one. I bought mine when it was on sale for under $15 from Canadian Tire. I wouldn't spend more than that on it though, use a pot or pressure cooker lol. It cooks it perfect every time and I like that I just set it and forget it until the button pops.

I'll admit the pictures don't make it look very appealing but I assure you this took me to flavor town! I topped mine with shredded cheese, sour cream, and salsa verde. To make this vegan omit the dairy and to make it with meat replace the mushrooms with your choice of meat (I'd recommend cooking the meat first, taking it out of the pan, and then add back to the veggies when they're almost done cooking.)

Ingredients:

2 T olive oil

1.5 c. sliced mushrooms

2 c. frozen peppers and onion OR

1/2 of each green, red, yellow/orange peppers

1/2 medium onion

2 T fajita seasoning

1/2 c. uncooked brown rice (can swap out for tortillas or quinoa)

shredded cheese

sour cream

salsa

Method:

Start your rice either in a pot or rice cooker before starting on the veg so you're not waiting too long after to eat your delicious fajita bowl

Over medium heat saute the sliced mushrooms in the olive oil. When they start softening up add the peppers and onion (I covered mine for a bit to speed up the softening process)

Once they've softened up a bit turn the heat up to med/high so they can start to brown and add the fajita seasoning

Add about 1/4 cup of water to help the seasoning evenly coat everything. It also makes it a bit saucy which then seeps into the rice! I added water a few times since the heat it high and it evaporates pretty fast

When the veggies are cooked to your liking remove from heat. You'll probably have to wait for the rice, depending on how it's being made and if you're using white rice.

When the rice is done spoon 1/2 c. into a bowl and top with half the mushroom and pepper mixture*. Add whatever toppings your little heart desires and bone apple teeth!!
*if you're following my measurements, change your measurements if you doubled the recipe

Hello friends!

I feel like I've been stuck in a slump the past few months just making the same things over and over again. I forgot about making sushi until a few weeks ago and I've had it 3 times now. It's SO easy to make and you can put literally anything you want in it.

I like to use what I have on hand and most of the time I go with avocado, bell pepper, carrot, and cucumber. I like to julien everything so it's easier to roll up. I do have a sushi mat but you can use plastic wrap to assist you and make less of a mess.

You can use any rice but I happened to buy sushi/sticky rice. If you don't have sticky rice you can mix in rice vinegar and sugar to assist in making it sticky.

Cook your rice according to package instructions and let it cool to at least room temperature

Put your nori (seaweed) on your plastic wrap and spread out about 1 cup of cooked and cooled rice. Spread it to each edge sideways but leave 1 inch at both the top and bottom edges

Add your fillings in a 1 inch stack. You can go a bit spread out but try to stack more than let it spread out**

KEEP IN MIND if you add too much you're going to have a hard time rolling it up

Carefully roll the edge of the nori closest to you and fold it over and under the fillings and continue rolling it until it's all rolled up

Gently 'hug' the roll to set everything together and so it holds its shape

Stuff might be falling out the sides so I just use the flat side of a knife to jam it back in

Move the roll to a cutting board if not already on one and use a sharp knife to cut it into pieces

If you're having a hard time cutting it make sure your knife is sharp enough or try running the knife under water between cuts

Enjoy it with soy sauce, wasabi, pickled ginger, or whatever accompaniments you like to eat with your sushi

Hopefully I remember to take pictures next time I make it haha! Bone apple teeth!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and rang in the new year how they wanted to. I stayed home with my cats with a sore throat. I realized that it was my first NYE alone. There are years that I stayed home but it was always with the guy I was with at the time, my parents, or friends. It felt a bit weird but I knew I'd feel even worse today if I tried venturing out. I still woke up congested and sneezing but my throat definitely would have been more raw had I gone out.

I got to leave work early yesterday because it was so slow so I promptly made a pot of soup to remedy this dang cold. I don't follow a recipe anymore, I just kind of throw whatever I have in the fridge and it always turns out amazing.

You can use whatever pasta, rice, or grain you like in your soup. I like barley and bow ties in mine but sometimes throw in wild rice instead of barley. I also like flat yolkless noodles in my soups. I prefer my soups more 'meaty', almost like a stew. Broth is nice and all but doesn't fill me up!

I used to buy cartons of broth but I always ended up throwing most of them away since I used them for stir fry and would forget about it in the fridge. I love this stuff from Costco - it keeps for a year in your fridge and has a great taste. They're around $7 I think so they're also economical!

Ingredients:

1/2 red onion, chopped small

2 cloves of garlic, minced

1/2 bell pepper, chopped into small pieces but not diced

1/2 zucchini, chopped into small pieces but not diced

1/2 large carrot, grated

8 cups of water or broth

2 non-measuring teaspoons of the bouillon paste (you can add less and see how it tastes, adding more if required)

1/4 cup dry barley, rinsed

1 cup bow tie pasta (I put about 3 handfuls that I grabbed out of the bag)

salt and pepper

1 bay leaf

oregano, thyme, basil, parsley

handful of chopped baby spinach

Prepare the veggies above and heat a large pot over medium high heat. Use a few tablespoons of olive oil and add the garlic and onions. Let them fry up until they're a bit brown for flavor

Add the bell pepper and zucchini. Let them cook for a few minutes and add the grated carrot

Once the veggies are cooked about halfway and browned add the water, bouillon, and herbs

Bring to a boil and add the rinsed barley. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 25 minutes stirring occasionally

Add your pasta and cook for another 6 minutes, or more depending how cooked you liked your pasta. I like mine pretty soft and I find bow ties take a bit longer so I cooked it for another 8 minutes

Add the spinach with about 2 minutes left on the timer. It only needs to be wilted which doesn't take very long

Taste to make sure there's enough bouillon if you're using the paste, and season with salt and pepper as desired

This soup made my throat feel so much better and filled me up. You can obviously use a beef or chicken broth if you aren't vegetarian, it will still turn out great.

You can use any veggie really. I really like celery in my soups but they weren't very fresh when I went grocery shopping so I skipped it.

I hope you enjoy this soup as much as I am and let me know how it turns out if you make it! You can tag me on Instagram or use the hashtag #kschickfitness

Cheers and all the best in 2019!

Hey everyone. Life has been absolutely crazy this year. I'm working on my Business Analyst Certification and am doing it online. The course I started in April, I neglected and ended up having to get an extension on. My dad passed away suddenly over the May long weekend from a stroke after 4 days in the hospital. My 2.5 year relationship was on the rocks for months as well and finally ended in June. Luckily I have an amazing support system from my insanely supportive and amazing family and friends. As well as my kitties that provide healing cuddles and love.

I was trying to spend more time outside since it was summer and the summers can be pretty short here in Winnipeg. If it's nice outside I'll opt for a walk rather than my scheduled workout. I'm still trying to do my weights three times a week though. These walks outside have resulted in a tan (even though I use sunscreen) and beautiful pictures of Winnipeg.

With all this going on my workouts have been put on the back burner. When I do have the time to workout I've been napping because I've been sleeping worse than normal and I'm exhausted from all this stress. Sometimes you just have to listen to your body and rest when needed.

After the breakup in June I wanted to buy my own place after renting for 12 years. While I was supposed to be working on the course that I had already gotten an extension on, I was house hunting and stressed out about that which made it hard to focus on school. I looked at 30 houses in less than 3 weeks. The 2 I liked sold and the first one crushed me because I wanted it so bad. I ended up buying a condo after deciding that a house is just too much for me alone. All I could see was maintenance, yard work, snow removal, and expensive stuff to replace when I looked at the houses. My condo is 910 sqft and has a giant balcony. I always thought I was against condos but I'm quite happy with my decision. 😀

I ended up reading 12 chapters, completing 8 assignments, and a case study in under 3 weeks. I had to pack and move during this time as well. I would have been happy just passing but finished with an A+ on the course overall!

I also started seeing someone new in August lol. I didn't intend to meet someone so fast because I'm definitely content being single but everything happens for a reason! It's been a long time since I've been this happy and it's nice to be with someone who you gel with so well.

I've been working out a bit more often than previous months but still not as often as previous years. However, I apparently lost a bunch of weight from the stress and am under 135 for the first time in years. I also lost 2" on my waist and 1" on my thighs. I didn't intend to lose weight or inches but apparently I lose weight when I'm stressed. I also think I was eating way less sugar than I normally do and I believe that is the major reason. I didn't even realize it until I started eating all the junk food again!

I started writing this post in August and forgot about it until this week. I was in a pretty bad place when I started it with everything going on but I can happily report that I feel like myself these days with lots of smiling and laughing. 😁

I'm on vacation this week so I'm hoping to do another post. Thanks for reading!

Hey folks, I realized I haven't written about Usana on my blog yet. I do have a link at the top of my page with the Pages but if you're interested in looking at the catalogue here is the link: www.kelseyschick.usana.com

I started selling Usana a year ago this month and mostly promote it on Instagram and Facebook. I started with the Cellsentials and Procosa supplements and noticed a difference within a few weeks. I've mentioned in my posts that the first thing I noticed were my nails. They used to be so flaky and weak. They would flip back but wouldn't break so I'd have a line across my nail and it would hurt, a lot. Now they're smooth and hard and healthy. I don't remember them ever being like this.

Most people notice how much more energy they have when taking these vitamins. Now I notice a little bit of a difference but I have a lot of sleep issues. So vitamins can only do so much for me with that lol.

I like Usana products because the founder of the company is renowned microbiologist and immunologist, Dr. Myron Wentz, All of the products are pharmaceutical grade, meaning what's listed on the bottle is actually what you're taking. The cheap vitamins you buy in the store are food grade - this means that what you're consuming could be either more than what is listed or none of what is listed for ingredients. What's the point of buying and taking them if they could be nothing pills?

Usana also uses ingredients that are more bioavailable for your body - meaning your body uses and absorbs the nutrients better than other supplements. To me it just makes sense to use products that actually do something. There are also quite a few athletes that use Usana products. This is a big deal because athletes tend to not use supplements because if they test positive for illegal substances it can ruin them Usana has a guarantee that they use only the ingredients listed and none of them are banned or listed as performance enhancing. Good enough for athletes, good enough for me!!

I continue to take my Cellsentials every day but am on a half dosage of one of each, twice a day. I switch up the optimizer depending on what's going on with my body and health. Poly C is great for fending off those viruses that go around the office multiple times a month. I think on my next order I'll be getting some Biomega (fish oil). And I'll also be getting the Sense Basics pack. I've been trying something new and it just isn't working. I'll do a before and after post when I get them and have been using them for a bit.

Check out my Usana website for more information or just shoot me a message! You can message me on any of my social media (use the icons at the top of my blog for links) or just comment on here! :)

I have tried a few veggie burger recipes and they usually crumble and don't stay together. I found this recipe and made some changes. Mostly because I like adding veggies when possible because it can be hard to eat enough in a day.

Again I didn't take pictures because I was being lazy and was trying to get them done fast. I made these on Sunday morning while waiting for breakfast to be delivered (it was Indian food, a ton of calories, and soooo delicious!).

These turned out fairly well but they could have used more herbs and spices. I definitely added enough garlic 😷

I started writing this so long ago that I forget the measurements! But here is an approximate recipe:

1.5 c. or 15 oz can (drained) black beans, half mashed

1 c. cooked brown rice

1 c. spinach, chopped

1/3 c. frozen corn, microwaved for a bit to half cook them

2 T of salsa

1 egg

1 c. bread crumbs

half a small onion, chopped finely

1-2 cloves of garlic, chopped finely

salt and pepper

1/4 tsp chili powder

1/4 tsp cumin

You can play around with the spices to your liking. These are the only burgers that have stayed together when cooking. I've tried a few other recipes and they just crumble. I used about half a cup of the mixture and formed into patties.

Cook these in a big pan over medium heat (5-6 out of 9) in a bit of olive oil or cooking spray. Flip after 3-4 minutes. If they're browning too much before cooking in the middle, turn the heat down a smidge. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes until they're a beautiful crispy brown on each side. These would freeze well too if you're cooking for one.

If you give these a try please let me know how they worked out!

I've been struggling with my workouts the past few months so have been quiet on my Instagram and on here. I just haven't been making exercise a priority and I have to change that. Saturdays used to be my 'go hard' days and I can't seem to get a workout in at all on weekends. I also stopped working out as soon as I get home after work so I'll be getting back into that.

I started a part time course in January so I'm in class once a week and I've been making the mistake of not working out on Wednesday and then I end up missing Thursday as well since class is 6PM-10PM. I only have 40 minutes to an hour between when I get home and when I need to leave. Thing #2 I need to work out.

I write about these things because I want you to know that you're not alone when you fall off track. It happens to everyone. The important thing is that you don't give up and you just get back into it. Make your grocery list and meal prep. Find a workout program that interests you and is something you enjoy. And then get. to. it.

I took this picture a few days before leaving for NZ. I didn't feel very good about myself on the trip and it's just more motivation to get back into gear lol. However, I enjoy food and I always say life is too short to not enjoy the things you like. And man, did I enjoy things in NZ haha. I had a specialty coffee every day, sometimes two. I also had a cinnamon bun or scone or something sweet whenever we stopped for coffee. I was on vacay.. I indulged. 😊

I haven't been creating anything new lately but I'm still eating delicious food! Above is a veggie quesadilla that I made a few weeks ago. I sauteed up some veg before putting it in a tortilla. I used our new grill but it squeezed the cheese out. So... lesson learned. I need my cheese INSIDE my quesadilla. I also made some homemade guacamole to enjoy with it.

This is a tofu scramble. I make this a few times a month because it's so darn easy and it's super versatile. You can basically use whatever veggies you have in your fridge. You can swap our the tofu for eggs, chicken, or ground beef too if you want. I use Indian spices in mine but you can always add your favorite herbs and spices.

I was addicted to avocado toast with diced tomatoes before we left. I had it every day, sometimes twice a day for like 3 weeks. It's so easy to make, it's vegan, and it's friggin' delicious. I guess I ran out of tomatoes this day but this was a Saturday breakfast. Tarun and I take turns making breakfast on weekends and it's usually eggs in some form with veggies, and hashbrowns and toast. Pancakes and French toast also make it onto the menu. Whatever we're in the mood for.

Let me know what foods/meals you've been digging this year!

As always, thanks for reading!

Hello everyone! I hope you're well and surviving the winter. Only.... 4 more months here 😆 Today I'm writing about - MAKEUP!

I started dabbling with makeup in my early teens but honestly wasn't very good at it (like every 13 year old) and didn't like caking the stuff on. I also rarely had the time in the morning to do it because I was always running late.

I started wearing daily make up again a few years ago and I love how it makes me feel. Before I go further I want to state that I'm not afraid to go out without makeup, I still feel beautiful without it, and it doesn't define me or who I am. I just love how you can play with your look and the confidence that comes with it. I also enjoy the process now of picking my colors and creating the look. Also, when I say "daily makeup", I mean eye shadow, eye liner, and mascara. Nothing fancy and usually was one eye shadow color.

My new obsession started when I looked up a tutorial on how to do a smokey eye look. I found Jaclyn Hill on YouTube and I was hooked. I loved how many looks you could create and how you can manipulate features with highlighting and contouring. There are now a few other make up vloggers I follow and I find myself also watching them now because I think these people are hilarious and I enjoy watching them on screen.

The makeup influencers that I love are:

Haley Jordan is one of The Fitness Marshall's back up booties and she is adorable and funny.

Krystal Clear Makeup is a fellow Canadian and gives awesome, honest feedback on products. She actually did a video of products she didn't like and she was so polite about it lol.

Jaclyn Hill is a very talented makeup artist and has all the secrets as she worked at MAC for years. Although Jaclyn kindled my love of makeup, I haven't been watching her videos as often as I was kind of feeling like she was selling out to money and endorsing products for the money, not because of the product.

Manny Mua is a newer one on my list but I love him. He's so funny and his reactions are priceless. He is absolutely honest about products and it's truly fascinating to watch a man who loves makeup. It's also a bit annoying to see how beautiful he does his makeup 😂

Tati is so pleasant to watch. She's also a new one on my list but she is so kind-hearted and soft spoken, I just love watching her videos. Her husband is also so sweet, it's refreshing to see their love when he's in her videos.

Laura Lee is great to watch if you need a laugh. She's so pretty and quirky but is also amazing with makeup. I honestly used to think her voice was unbearable but she really grows on you and she seems like a truly good person.

Kathleen Lights is adorable and so bubbly. I love her accents and she does a lot of natural looks more than glam.

My makeup stash is growing and it mainly consists of drugstore brands but I do have a few items that I splurged on because there are some things worth the money, if you're into makeup. If you're on a budget or just not committed enough to spend the money, you can get by on drugstore brands. I recommend any of the above YouTubers (or just search on YouTube) for their reviews of drugstore brand makeup. They tell you what's worth it and what isn't. They also tell you which products they use on the daily - good enough for them, good enough for me.

However, I think the biggest thing about drugstore brand makeup is that most of the brands aren't cruelty free. The only one I know of is Wet n Wild and holy smokes are they affordable. I bought their foundation the other week and then watched Krystal's video of her favorite products and that was one of them. Manny Mua has also said in a video that he loves this foundation.

I've been thinking about doing tutorial videos and/or reviews on stuff. If you'd like to see me branch out into this or just make videos in general, please comment below! Side note: I need to take more selfies when I'm wearing makeup because I didn't have any recent ones to put on this post. Will update with some pictures!

Thanks for reading and take care,
I've been trying really hard to meal prep and take healthy, wholesome lunches to work so last week I whipped up these Buddha bowls. A Buddha bowl is basically a bowl of some kind of grain, cooked veggies, and sauce. Possibly the same as a dragon bowl? I'm not sure but they're both delicious.

Hola! I've been walking to work for 5 years now, in all seasons. So I've learned a thing or two about how to dress for all types of weather and wanted to share for anyone who wants to walk to work or is starting to and isn't sure what to wear. I walk most days, unless it's pouring rain, super windy (I LOATHE wind), or it's blizzarding or the sidewalks aren't cleared. On the days I don't walk I'll take my car but parking is a pain unless I'm on the early shift. I can get the boyfriend to drop me off as long as I'm ready to leave at the same time as him, as well as get him to pick me up. Sometimes the roommate drops me off too if we're leaving at the same time.

I have been grilling up a storm the past few days. I bought my boyfriend this grill for Christmas because he misses being able to BBQ but I think I'm more excited about this thing than he is. The picture below was from my lunch yesterday. I made it before work and it was the easiest thing. It took a few minutes to preheat, I threw the burger on and continued getting ready, and it was done 5 minutes later.

If there's one thing I excel at besides eating, it is procrastinating. I put things off and wait until 'later' to get it done. I once heard that clutter is a sign of procrastination and realized that it's totally true. I'm not a messy person but I definitely have clutter in my apartment because I just didn't feel like putting it away in the first place. Even if it where the thing belonged was right beside or below where I left it.
I hope everyone in Canada had a lovely Thanksgiving the other weekend! And I hope that everyone is enjoying this beautiful fall weather. I don't look forward to Fall in the Summer, but that's because it means minus 40 weather is close behind it. But I do love Fall. The colors are gorgeous and the smell is lovely. 😄
Earlier this year I got a Polar Loop 2 because I already had the Polar A300. I like the look of the Loop and it was pretty accurate for daily activity and calories burned. However, it was annoying having to sync each device on a different phone because the Loop isn't compatible with my LG G4. Luckily I still had my Galaxy S5 to sync it with so I didn't always have to connect it to the computer to sync data.

Today was day four of no treats. I think I should stop referring to this as a 'detox' because I'm still eating some things that have added sugar: like cereal, yogurt, etc. To some this may not be different but as someone who has a major sweet tooth, this is really hard for me.
This recipe is also from www.acouplecooks.com and was in my calendar. I didn't follow the directions exactly and swapped the summer squash for mushrooms for some extra protein, and I also just had mushrooms that needed to be used.

The spice mixture for the lentils looked odd to me but I did as it said and they tasted pretty good. I topped my tacos with hot sauce and regular sour cream.
