Two weeks of vacation!

If you haven't noticed, I love summer. I love the heat, and HOT days. Tomorrow marks the end of my first week of vacation but I also have next week off. I started the weekend with a friend who came to visit. We went for dinner and played tourist, it was a lot of fun.

On Saturday I met my friend at Costco to buy groceries for our camping trip and we grabbed brunch and then I stopped at my mom's. She wanted to go to the gym so she asked me if I could babysit my niece. I needed to get home but told her I could take her with me, so that's what we did!

It was really hot out so I took her to the splash pad a few blocks from my place and she loved it. When we got back to my place she let me get an hour workout in before going back to my mom's place. She is so well behaved and I thanked her for letting me workout :) I also went to visit my grandpa in the hospital who had a stroke the other week. That was exhausting but I won't go into that.

On Sunday my friend and I left for camping in her camper!! Her lovely husband drove it out for us and helped us get set up. That was home for four days!

I guess we're friends for a reason but it's really nice going camping and doing things with someone who has the same interests and eats the way you do. We jammed on our guitars a few times and actually had people stopping to watch and had a few stop to say thank you for the music haha. It was humbling because I don't think I'm that good.

We both try to eat as healthy as possible so our first breakfast was this beautiful stack. Fried ham, eggs, tomatoes, and kale on top of grainy bread with mashed avocado. I wish I could eat this good every camping trip!

After breakfast we went biking for about an hour and a half. We explored a bunch of the trails there and I showed her where my grandma grew up. It was a great workout and the last bit of it on the road was all up hill and we were already tired by that point.

We got a rotisserie chicken from Costco on Saturday so I took it home and chopped it up. So for lunch I had a chicken sandwich and Justina had a big salad with it.

The day started off a lot cooler than it's been the last few days so it was a pleasant surprise when it was warm enough to go to the beach after lunch. She went swimming in the freezing water... I did not. I'm a big baby when it comes to cold water. No thanks. So I was happy to lay on the beach and read my book.

We got back from the beach just before dinner so we enjoyed a drink and both read our books for a little bit. I'm happiest with a book in my hand and when there's a drink in the other, that's just the icing on the cake.

Justina made us this tasty dinner of pork chops, green beans from her garden, and baby potatoes with onions and sour cream. Who says women can't BBQ? I like to think we're both pretty darn good at it.

Tuesday was a fairly lazy day compared to the previous day. We had a friend come out around lunch time and we headed to the beach. It was a weird day weather-wise because it was hot when the sun was out but it got pretty cool when the clouds blocked the sun. I managed to go in the water but basically dipped down up to my neck and got the heck out of there.

After the beach Justina made this beautiful steak dinner for us. It tasted as amazing as it looks! Cooking stuff on the grill just makes it taste so much better. Mmmmmm.

Wednesday started off with the three of us going for a 4.5 km hike that we did in 53 minutes. It was perfect temperature - not too hot, and not too cold. Mosquitoes were insane though so we coated on the bug spray.

When we got back from the hike we had something small to nibble on because we were heading to the beach and we all had poutine on the mind. Justina and I shared one and then each got an ice cream cone. Then came the constant drizzle and clouds. We sat at the beach for a bit because our friend's mom and some friends made the trip to beach so we sat and visited for a bit.

Justina and I walked back to the camp site (and I took us down the really long way...) but the rain mostly held off until we walked into the campsite. After that it was basically a constant rain from Wednesday afternoon and all of Thursday. So we packed up early and headed back to the city since we would have just been sitting in the camper.

I saw the above deer when I was coming back from the washrooms. He was standing at the end of the trail just before our site so I ran to the camper and got my phone to take a picture. Luckily he was still on the road munching on the grass. He took off when I tried getting closer but I was already fairly close.

That was my week so far! I'm happy to be home but am taking off again on Sunday to go camping with my mom and aunt. There will be less booze this trip which I'm looking forward to, haha.

I hope everyone is having a great summer!!
